Drug Uses
Dapsone is used for treatment of leprosy. It may be used in combination with other medications. It is also used to cure dermatitis herpetiformis (extremely itchy groups of skin lesions, regularly occurring on the elbows, knees, and scalp). It can also be used for other conditions as determined by your physician.
How Taken
Use Dapsone as directed by your doctor. Take Dapsone on an empty stomach. If stomach upset occurs, you can take it with food to reduce stomach irritation. If you also take didanosine, do not take it within 2 hours before or after taking Dapsone. To clear up your infection absolutely, take Dapsone for the full course of medication. Keep using it even if you feel better in several days. Dapsone works best if it is taken at the same time daily.
More Information
Dapsone can cause blurred vision. Use Dapsone with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly dangerous tasks until you know how you react to this drug. If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, contact your doctor. Dapsone should be used only by the patient for whom it has been directed. Do not take less or more or take it more often than ordered by your doctor.
