Drug Uses
Dapsone is used for curing leprosy. It may be used in combination with other drugs. It is also used to treat dermatitis herpetiformis (extremely itchy groups of skin lesions, ordinaryly occurring on the elbows, knees, and scalp). It can also be used for other situations as recommended by your physician.
How Taken
Use Dapsone as ordered by your physician. Take Dapsone on an empty stomach. If stomach upset occurs, you can take it with meal to reduce stomach irritation. If you also take didanosine, do not take it within 2 hours before or after taking Dapsone. To clear up your infection completely, take Dapsone for the full course of medication. Keep taking it even if you feel better in a few days. Dapsone works best if it is taken at the same time daily.
More Information
Dapsone may cause blurred vision. Use Dapsone with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to this medication. If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, call your doctor. Dapsone should be used only by the patient for whom it has been ordered. Do not take less or more or take it more often than recommended by your doctor.
