Drug Uses
Dapsone is used for treatment of leprosy. It can be used in combination with other drugs. It is also used to treat dermatitis herpetiformis (extremely itchy groups of skin lesions, ordinaryly occurring on the elbows, knees, and scalp). It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your physician.
How Taken
Use Dapsone as prescribed by your physician. Take Dapsone on an empty stomach. If stomach upset occurs, you can take it with food to reduce stomach irritation. If you also take didanosine, do not take it within 2 hours before or after taking Dapsone. To clear up your infection completely, take Dapsone for the full course of medication. Keep taking it even if you feel better in several days. Dapsone works best if it is taken at the same time each day.
Additional Information
Dapsone may cause blurred vision. Take Dapsone with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to this pill. If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, visit your doctor. Dapsone should be used only by the patient for whom it has been prescribed. Do not take less or more or take it more often than ordered by your doctor.
