Drug Uses
Ortho Tri–Cyclen contains a mixture of estrogen and progestin hormones, which is used for preventing unwanted pregnancy. It can also be used for regulation of the menstrual cycle, for curing symptoms of menopause, or treatment of other conditions as determined by your doctor.
How Taken
Ortho Tri–Cyclen comes in pills to take orally. Then take one pill a day, the time interval between pills should not be more than 24 hours. It is prescribed to take the pills at the same time daily (e.g. before bed, with food intake, or first thing in the morning). If you take your pills at night, this can reduce nausea or headache that you can experience while taking birth control pills. Avoid missing pills or starting the pack late. The more pills are missed the higher the risk to get pregnant. You may have spotting, light bleeding or you can feel sick to your stomach during the first 13 packs of pills. You should not stop taking pills if you feel sick. This side effect usually goes away. If it stays for long, you should visit your physician. If you find it difficult remembering to take the drug at the right time, you should discuss with your doctor the use of another birth control method.
Additional Information
Before Ortho Tri–Cyclen is prescribed, you will have to be examined by your physician. Tell your doctor your medical history. You should be re-examined at least once a year. Do not miss appointments with your healthcare provider, as it is best to determine any side effects at an early stage. Ortho Tri–Cyclen has to be used only for the purpose it has been ordered. Ortho Tri–Cyclen does not protect from HIV and other venereal diseases.
