Drug Uses
Sumycin is used for treatment or prevention of infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria.
How Taken
Take Sumycin with a glass of water as directed by your doctor. Do not lie down for 30 minutes after taking Sumycin. Take Sumycin on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Do not take antacids containing aluminum, calcium, or magnesium, preparations containing bismuth, iron, zinc, or sodium bicarbonate, or calcium rich foods (eg, milk, dairy products, and calcium–enriched juices) within 2 to 3 hours before or after taking Sumycin. These products bind with Sumycin, preventing its full absorption. To clear up your infection completely, continue using Sumycin for the full course of treatment even if you feel better in a few days.
More Information
Sumycin may cause dizziness or blurred vision. These effects may worsen if Sumycin is taken with alcohol or certain other medications. Use Sumycin with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to this drug. If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, contact your doctor. Sumycin should be used only by the patient for whom it has been prescribed. Do not take less or more or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
