Drug Uses
Ortho Tri–Cyclen contains a mixture of estrogen and progestin hormones, which is used for preventing pregnancy. It can also be used for regulation of the menstrual cycle, for treatment of symptoms of menopause, or treatment of other conditions as recommended by your doctor.
How Taken
Ortho Tri–Cyclen comes in pills to take orally. Then take one tablet daily, the time interval between pills should not be more than 24 hours. It is prescribed to take the pills at the same time every day (e.g. before bed, with food intake, or first thing in the morning). If you take your pills at night, this can reduce nausea or headache that you can experience while taking birth control pills. Avoid missing pills or starting the pack late. The more pills are missed the higher the risk to get pregnant. You can have spotting, light bleeding or you may feel sick to your stomach during the first 13 packs of pills. You should not stop taking pills if you feel sick. This side effect usually goes away. If it persists for long, you should call your doctor. If you find it difficult remembering to take the pill at the right time, you should discuss with your physician the use of another birth control method.
Additional Information
Before Ortho Tri–Cyclen is recommended, you will have to be examined by your physician. Tell your doctor your medical history. You should be re-examined at least once a year. Do not miss appointments with your healthcare provider, as it is best to determine any side effects at an early stage. Ortho Tri–Cyclen has to be used only for the purpose it has been prescribed. Ortho Tri–Cyclen does not protect from HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.
